Project Summary

Bayview Environmental Services, Inc. was awarded the asbestos abatement project at the San Mateo County Hospital for the remediation of the hazardous materials (asbestos & lead paint) prior to the demolition. The scope of work included the abatement of the 1954 building which was a 3-story hospital building and a 3-story medical office building adjacent to the hospital which was the Health Service Building (HSB). Bayview competitively bid the project to Truebeck Construction in January of 2021 and Bayview was awarded the project, however the project was delayed for almost two years as the new hospital was being built and the abatement scope was not started until August of 2023.

The abatement included the removal and disposal of asbestos containing and lead containing materials; floor tile, mastic, drywall and plaster wall and ceiling surfaces. The scope included a concrete leveling compound which was discovered on all 3 floors of the 1954 building. Also, the entire exterior of the 1954 building had an asbestos paint or coating. Scaffolding was installed around the entire exterior of the 1954 building by Bayview’s sub-contractor Brandsafway and Bayview installed a shrink wrap containment supported by the scaffold. The exterior coating was removed using grinders with a HEPA vacuum attachment to capture the dust.

The HSB building also contained asbestos flooring and drywall wall and ceiling materials as well as the exterior had an asbestos stucco which had to be removed from the entire exterior. Again, the building was contained with scaffolding and shrink wrap and the stucco was pulled off and placed into 40-yard waste containers for disposal as an asbestos waste material.

Window caulking was also a part of the scope of work on both buildings.

The Bayview superintendent Jesus Delgado and the project foreman Jose Salis completed the project without incident.

SW Carpenters Union TI
Carson
Project Summary

This is Bayview Demolition Services’ first project with Oltmans Construction. It is located at the SW Carpenters Union Office & Training Facility in Carson. We removed the interior finishes of the two-story office space and cut a large opening in a concrete filled pan deck for a new staircase. After the soft demo we moved into the hard demolition of the concrete slab on grade to allow for new plumbing services to be installed. In addition to the slab removal, we sawcut openings in precast concrete panels for a new roll up door and multiple man door openings. In the warehouse we removed a metal mezzanine before grinding over 5,000sf of epoxy. There has been over $100,000 in change orders added to the contract due to design changes and us picking up other subcontractors’ demolition scope, mainly with the exterior site work trenching and demolition of the trash enclosure.

INTEL – D2P4 Data Center
Santa Clara
Project Summary

Bayview Environmental Services, Inc. was awarded the project at Building D2P4 for the demolition of the space at the Intel Santa Clara facility for a new Data Center. The scope of the base contract included removing the raised computer floor system including the below floor fire sprinkler systems and removing the vinyl sheet flooring which was beneath the raised floor.

The change orders included the removal of all the rooftop AHU’s and removal of all the associated duct work and exhaust risers that served the air handling units. All the duct work penetrating the roof into the data center had to be removed and capped off so that the roof of the data center could be closed up. Additional change orders were added for the demolition of the RTO system (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) located outside adjacent to the D2 building. The RTO duct work was found to contain high levels of zinc which is highly flammable and reacts explosively when a zinc fire is hit with water. The contaminated ducts and the heat exchanger tanks all had to be cleaned out so that all the zinc residue was removed prior to the demolition team completing the demolition scope.

The project was a combination project performed with Environmental and Demolition teams working in sequence to remove the necessary items scheduled for demolition.

Josue Torres was the superintendent assigned to this project along with Anthony and Jose Navarro who oversaw the clean demolition scope. Jamie Nuno was the foreman that oversaw the hazardous scope to remove the zinc from the RTO system.
